A Surprise from Becky

Becky, from  Plants and Stones, one of my favourite blogs, has awarded me a Versatile Blogger Award.  Thanks, Becky!

The rules for accepting the award are:
  • Thank the award-giver and link back to them in your post.
  • In the post, include this set of rules.
  • Share 7 things about yourself.
  • Forward this award to 15 fellow bloggers, and inform them with a comment on each of their blogs.
So here goes -

7 Things you may not know about me, in no particular order:
  1. I have always had a secret desire to be a professional writer.
  2. My favourite colour is purple and all its variations.
  3. I am a member of a book group, reading and discussing literature, but outside of that I mainly read crime fiction, fantasy and science fiction.
  4. My favourite artist is Vincent Van Gogh, and my favourite painting is, surprisingly, not one of his flower ones, but "Starry Night".
  5. I am a committed Christian and have been since I was 14 years old.
  6. I am a bit obsessed with English history and my favourite period is the Anglo-Saxon period, from about 550 to 1066.
  7. I eat far too much chocolate.
I would like to give this award to the following 15 bloggers, again in no special order:

  1. The Patient Gardener's Weblog
  2. Lead up the Garden Path
  3. Tidy Gardens by Jane
  4. My Weeds are Very Sorry

  11. Women Who Run With Delphiniums
  12. Deep Into the Darkness Peering
  13. This Blooming Life
  14. Carolyn's Shade Gardens
  15. Beangenie
PS  Debra, who writes Gardens Inspired, has just nominated me for this award, too! If you're not familiar with her blog, I recommend a visit. It's one I always enjoy.

  1. Lyn, Thank you so much for giving me this award. I will find away to acknowledge it properly in an upcoming post but meanwhile I am honored. Now do you send chocolate as part of the prize? Carolyn

  2. Thank you very much for nominating GWGT. Your blog is very deserving of the award and I am glad to see you have been nominated a couple of times, right? I too am a chocaholic. Not too bad a vice though.

  3. I love Van Gogh! I teach science but have his self portrait on the wall anyway. I eat chocolate every day. Life is too short not to!

  4. Yes, Starry Night is the best! It hangs in my dining room. It's actually a needlepoint rendition that my step daughter made which sounds odd, but it's very rich and textured and a totally faithful Van Gogh.

Thanks so much for the Versatile Blogger award! I liked reading about your idiosyncrasies, and I am going to check out some of your nominees whose blogs are new to me.

  5. Thanks Lyn, just the boost I needed. I love the 7 things...there were a few that resonated really personally with me...and it wasn't chocolate! I love dropping in and admiring your garden too. Have you have much rain? Only a little here, hoping for more. Alison

  6. Dear Lynn, thank you for the award - I feel very honoured to receive it. I very much enjoy your blog, and our commenting relationship. Starry starry night (painting) gives me goose bumps, and i also love the song. And I also love purple. cheers, catmint

  7. Very well deserved award, Lynn. I wonder where the Versatile blogger start? It seems to be around a lot at the moment.

I'm only a chocolate eater if it's dark and luscious. Purple is my favourite colour in the garden!

  8. Ahoy! Thank you so much for nominating me for such a prestigeous's the second time I've been awarded it in the past week, people will think I'm paying them for the nomination! I did my post last week with my dodgy random confessions. Don't you just love the blogging community. Well done on your award...well deserved xx

  9. Thanks for thinking of me, Lyn, I see that I am in very good company, too!

ps, I don't really participate in these memes anymore, having written things about myself a few times already. But I will place the award and a link to your blog on my awards page. Thanks, again.

  10. Congratulations! My favorite color is purple, too. And I need to eat more chocolate - it seems I've been on a never-ending diet for years! I should just chuck it for a day and eat nothing but chocolate! Oh, and ice cream. ;)

  11. Congratulations, and thanks so much for nominating me! I am honored that you like my blog so much. I was just nominated recently and wrote about it a couple blog posts ago - I'll add you to the post!
And I, too, eat way too much chocolate..

  12. Hi Lyn
Thanks so much for the award - I'm honoured that you thought of me. I enjoyed reading your 7 random facts, it's always fun to get an insight into people's interests! I love purple too, and I *wish* I was in a book club!

  13. I am linking to your blog later today to thank you for the award.

  14. Hi Lyn
Thanks for the award - its very kind of you. I will do a post soon and pass on the award

  15. Congrats and I'm with you on the chocolate!

  16. Lyn, not to pile-on but you are obviously a favorite read for many. I always enjoy your writing and have, therefore, nominated you and your Blog for The Versatile Blogger Award, TOO! My post this week includes your nomination and a link to your writing. ~Debra

  17. Thanks for the award! You are very kind to think of my blog. I really enjoy getting to know more about other bloggers, and it was fun reading the facts about you. I share numbers 1, 5, and, unfortunately, 7 with you. I also enjoy reading historical and science fiction!

  18. Congrats, Lyn! I'm with you on the chocolate! Oh, and most of the other items you list. I'll bet your garden is absolutely gorgeous about now! Cheers!

  19. Lyn, Congratulations on the Versatile Blogger award. I'm trying to figure out what it means that so many garden bloggers like to read crime novels; are we sublimating our murderous urges in our gardens, or is it the order that is restored in detective fiction that appeals to us? BTW, isn't the phrase "too much chocolate" an oxymoro? -Jean

  20. Carolyn - you're very welcome. But if I sent chocolate as part of the prize, you would have to send chocolate to 15 other bloggers, so you would end up with less chocolate. And less chocolate is always a tragedy.

Donna - thank you very much. As far as I know I've only been nominated once; hopefully I haven't missed thanking someone! And all the best people are chocoholics.

Casa Mariposa - chocolate every day and Vincent on the wall sounds like happiness to me.

Laurrie - I can absolutely imagine Starry Night in textured needlepoint - what a wonderful artwork to have in your dining room. My husband and I saw the original when an exhibition from the Musee D'Orsay came to Canberra, and we were both incredibly moved by it.

Alison - you're very welcome. We have had too much rain here! And no sun and no real heat. It's all green and it feels strange, like it isn't summer. I complain about heat and dryness usually, but this is just too weird.

Catmint - you're very welcome. I also love the song. When I was a teenager I used to cry when I heard it. And when I saw the painting I cried too.

Janet - thank you. Thousands of bloggers must have this award by now, but it's still nice to be noticed! I've never met a chocolate I didn't like, or a purple either!

Jane - ahoy to you too! You're very welcome and I'm sorry I didn't know you'd already been nominated. I have had a hiatus from reading any blogs for about a month, but I'm steadily catching up now.

Frances - I guessed you probably don't participate in award memes - you must be nominated all the time - but I love your blog so much that I wanted to acknowledge you anyway.

Holley - thank you. Your idea of a chocolate and ice-cream day has merit, but you must remember one vital point: eat the ice-cram after the chocolate, not before. If you eat the ice-cream first, your mouth is too cold for the chcololate to melt into luscious gooiness on contact, which is one of the joys of eating chocolate. Follow this simple rule and all will be well. :)

Indie - you're very welcome. I'm sorry I missed your post about the award. I haven't read any blogs for about a month, but I did just do a quick search on the blogs I nominated to check if anything came up with "award" in it. Somehow I missed a few, including yours. I am catching up with my reading now, but it's taking a while!

Ruth - you're very welcome. For over 20 years I wanted so much to be in a book club. Last year I finally found one I could join and it's been really wonderful. I hope you find one too.

    Helen - you're very welcome.

NH Garden - thanks! All the best people like chocolate.

Debra - thank you so much! I'll add your nomination to this post and link to you as well as Becky.

Deb - You're very welcome. It seems like we have lots in common besides gardening!

Beth - thank you! My garden is looking strange at the moment. Low temperatures and lots of rain and humidity mean it's too green and lush, more like spring than summer, and lots of flowering plants aren't flowering because it hasn't been warm enough. I feel disoriented, although it's been nice not to have to water constantly.

Jean - thank you! I like crime novels for the puzzle-solving aspect mostly, and I do see a connection to gardening there. Trying to improve my garden is all about finding solutions to design problems and it is satisfying when all the clues come together. Unfortunately, order is never completely achieved in my garden, the way it is in the novels! There is such a thing as too much chocolate, but I have no intention of admitting the circumstances under which I discovered this :)

  21. Thank you Lyn for giving me this award. Soon I will write a post on the subject with a link to your blog (if I can work out how to do that!) but in the meantime I am honoured that you thought of me, Thank you.

Thank you for visiting! I'd love you to leave a comment so we can get to know each other.
