I'll be Absent for a While

I'm leaving today for two weeks' holiday without internet access, meaning I won't be posting or commenting. I'm also skipping an End of Month View this month. Nothing much has changed since last month, anyway. I'll be looking forward to catching up on some of your posts when I get back.

Who is the Amateur Weeder?

The Amateur Weeder is 52 years old and her perfect week goes something like this:

1. Visit some wonderful gardens and read lots of inspiring gardening books, magazines and blogs.

2. Use that inspiration to plan a new garden area of her own.

3. Spend long, happy hours and lots of cash buying plants and materials.

4. Sit in the shade and watch her team of strong and knowledgeable gardeners turn her plans into reality.

As the wads of cash and the team of gardeners exist only in her imagination, she has to occasionally leave the books and don the gardening gloves herself.

Her garden is a quarter-acre block (1 000 square metres) around her house in Bathurst, NSW, Australia. The soil is slightly alkaline clay over granite, and the climate ranges from
-8 C to 40 C. (USDA Hardiness Zone 8b)
Snow is rare. Rainfall is about 600mm per year and can happen at any time. Or not.
